For those who are in the continent, many of the processes on oil platforms are unknown or curious. It was for one of these processes that PETROBRAS invited us.

Together with our sister company of HBR Holding, HBR Máquinas, we signed a long-term rental agreement with PETROBRAS for mobile use of our solution on its offshore platforms. It is there that these gigantic and technological FPSO structures (Floating Production, Storage and Offloading) extract oil and gas.

On these platforms, the oil is extracted from the marine soil and passes through a process plant that separates water, gas and oil, which is sent to large storage tanks that are in the hull of the FPSO itself. Finally, this oil is transferred to other ships to be transported to refineries.

Over time, however, sludge accumulation begins to occur in oil storage tanks, making handling difficult. Hence the need and importance of periodic cleaning of these tanks.

Cleaning is done with specific equipment and by personnel prepared and trained for this function. However, since it is a chemical material in an environment with high temperatures and with the possible presence of toxic gases and even with a lower concentration of oxygen, it is very important that the ventilation of the place is constant.

That’s when HBR Máquinas and REFRISAT entered! We provide a package of a Chiller of more than 200 TR, screw type and with double circuit, together with 1 special fancoil for this specific function, in addition to a structure of flexible dumpers and removable ducts (for air supply).

During cleaning, air is blown directly into the tanks at a reception temperature ranging from 12ºC to 18ºC. And since this emptying of the tanks is periodic and the need for cleaning is conditional to this periodicity, PETROBRAS rented our structure to use it in a mobile way, that is, rotating between platforms to clean different tanks according to their needs.

In addition to the rental and the entire equipment structure, HBR Máquinas and REFRISAT provided in this contract an “on-board” team responsible for the operation and maintenance of the equipment. All the knowledge of more than 30 years of HBR machines in OFFSHORE supplies was very important for the success of this project with PETROBRAS. This means that we provide training and advice to the installation process, we maintain and permanently monitor the equipment and all this with a team of technicians and engineers prepared to calculate the specificities and needs of the process.
